I Am Not a Cat

I was busy being unnecessarily stressed out at my place of work yesterday afternoon when Silbia, an incredibly sarcastic but unabashedly tenderhearted El Salvadorian day porter with a thick accent and a smile the size of a highway billboard asked me, as she often does, if I was sick.

"No Silbia," I said, "I'm not sick."

"Then stop looking so sad," she scolded. "Just be happy. You only have one life. You are not a cat."
