The picture above was taken on the morning of my first school bus ride. I'm the blonde kid in the middle with the short shorts and tall socks and Stafford Drive address card hanging around his neck. The boy immediately to my left, the one with the missing front tooth and the closed eyes and the pants with the pockets and zippers on the thigh, that's my childhood best friend Danny Frazier. To his left is Herbie, my then-babysitter's daughter. Behind us is Laketon Bethel Reformed Church, which is down the street from my grandparents' old house.
Until recently I had no idea that this photo existed. In fact, I didn't even know that my first school bus ride had even been documented until someone I knew back then and haven't spoken to since sent me a Facebook message last month.
I'm not sure if you remember me but we rode our first bus together in elementary and played soccer together. both you and your mom have been an inspiration and I believe I could find our/your first bus ride photo if you could share it with your mom whom I have been following for a while now. I just want to let you know that I support her & your cause. If you are interested in that Photo Please let me know. Thank you for your time.
Sometimes I think Facebook is just noise, another thing to ignore or to be annoyed by. But mostly I think it's pretty great, if only that it allows for people that you haven't known in more than two decades to write you a nice note about your mother and send you a photo of your first school bus ride.
